EVENT Highlight

We are excited to have a private tour of the Old Manakin Church and Huguenot Society Headquarters conducted by Ann Woodlief, National Librarian, and Bryan Godfrey, Staff Librarian. The church is not usually open to the public. The tour will begin shortly after our business meeting.

The original church, was a small octagon-shaped log structure. It was built in 1701 under the direction of its first minister, Benjamin de Joux. Monsieur de Joux was a passenger on the Peter and Anthony. The church was replaced four times over the years.

“List of passengers from London to James River in Virginia, being French Refugees imbarqued in the ship ye Peter and Anthony, Galley of London, Daniel Perreau Commander (viz't) 20th of Sept. 1700…”

Two of the passengers listed on the manifest were Monsieur Je Joux, minister and Pierre Prevol.
